Case Study: Opinionated
Role: Co-Founder & Art Director
Opinionated is the revisited experiment of my former company Thumb... and prior to that Opinionaided. Both moderately successful binary opinion based apps that would empower users to ask opinions from other users within the app resulting in instantaneous results. It connected people faster and with the lowest barrier to a 1:1 chat we had ever seen at the time.
There were of course challenges and without a doubt the largest challenge we faced was moderating user content to a minimum of PG-13.
This experiment takes that challenge head on and imagines it with the life and "simple complexity" of an on-trend app that users would download today.
Step 1: Strategy
Just give the users what they want... quick 1:1 chats with lots of people.
Formally the apps required the reference of an image to accompany the question and the question required a 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' option for users to reply back to. The issue remained that images were very hard and costly to moderate in realtime and users liked asking varied questions... some being a comparison but not necessarily good or bad.
- No images.
- Replace the former thumbs up and down vote buttons
- Create post templates that properly form questions
